What is the profile for, and who can see it?

Your profile is your practitioner page. The site uses it to show you to other people and to work out your card. It is split into six tabs, side by side under your photo. “Profile”: photo, name, username, city, bio, socials. “Tatami”: belt, stripes, start year, weight, academy, coach. “Promotions”: the history of the belts you have earned and who gave them to you. “Competitions”: your tournament results. “Settings”: password and account deletion. “Card”: your collectible card to download. Your profile also has a public page. The address is bjjsquare.com/athletes/your-username. Anyone can see it, even people with no account on the site. The public page shows: photo, name, username, belt, city and country, bio, start year, academy, coach, lineage, promotions, socials, competition results and badges. It does not show: your email, your phone number and your weight in kilos. Right now the public page cannot be hidden. In “Settings” there is a “Profile visibility” item, but next to it is the word “soon”: it is not active yet and you cannot touch it. Go to your profile

What is the “Complete your profile” bar?

It is the list of things you can do on your own to have a useful profile. Five steps, and each one is clickable: it takes you straight to where you fill it in. Name, username and photo — so teammates recognise you Your gym — you cannot check in without one Start year and weight — teammates in your division can find you Your coach — unlocks lineage and confirmations One finishing touch among bio, city and socials — so your public profile is not empty Only what depends on you counts towards the percentage. The confirmations you are waiting on from your coach — the belt to verify, the link to confirm — sit in a separate list, “Waiting for confirmation”, and they do not hold the bar back. If you did your part you reach 100% even while waiting, and you read “All done — only the confirmations above are left”. Do not mix it up with the “complete profile” of the *On the Mat* badge: that one looks at three fields only (home academy, start year and weight class). Two different counts.

How do I change my profile photo?

Accepted Answer

Open the “Profile” tab. At the top you find the square with your photo (or the first letter of your name). Tap the square, or the red “Change photo” text next to it. Your phone gallery or your computer folders open. Pick the image. Wait. A small circle spins over the photo and the word “Uploading…” appears. When the circle disappears and you see the new photo, it is done. The photo saves by itself. You do not have to press “Save changes”. Only JPG, PNG and WebP files work, up to 5 MB. If the file is heavier you get the red message “Image too large. Maximum 5 MB.” iPhone photos in HEIC format are rejected. An error appears and the photo does not upload. Quick fix: open the photo on your phone, take a screenshot and upload the screenshot. Permanent fix: on your iPhone go to Settings → Camera → Formats and pick “Most Compatible”. New photos will be JPG. You may keep seeing the old photo at the top of the page, in the menu or on the card, even after uploading the new one. It is a known problem. Close the page and open it again after a few minutes. If the photo will not upload after two tries, write to info@bjjsquare.com and attach the image.

Question 4

What is the username and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

Your username is your short name on the site. No spaces, all lowercase. For example: mario_bjj. It becomes the address of your public page: bjjsquare.com/athletes/mario_bjj. It is printed on your BJJ Square Card, at the bottom, with an @ in front. Your coach needs it to open your page and tick off your competition results. People who saw you in a gym's student list need it to find you. Without a username you have no public page. Your coach cannot open it and cannot verify your competition results. There is no button inside the site that takes you to your public page. To see it you have to type the address by hand in the browser.

How do I choose or change my username?

Accepted Answer

Open the “Profile” tab. Under “Personal details” find the “Username” field, the one with the @ on the left. Type the username you want. Scroll to the bottom of the page and press the red “Save changes” button. The button turns green and says “✓ Saved”. It is done. You can only use lowercase letters, numbers and the underscore (_). Capitals, spaces, accents and dots disappear on their own as you type: it is not a block, it is the site removing them. If you leave the field empty and press “Save changes”, the site gives you a username taken from your email, without telling you. If your email is mario.rossi@gmail.com, your username becomes mario_rossi. If you do not like it, come back here and change it. If the username already belongs to someone else, a very long red line appears, something like “duplicate key value violates unique constraint "profiles_username_key"”. It means one thing only: that username is taken. Pick another one, for example by adding a number. If you change your username, the address of your public page changes too. The old link stops working. Tell anyone who had saved it. If a different error appears and you cannot save, write to info@bjjsquare.com with the username you were trying.

Question 6

Where do I put my name, city, bio and socials?

Accepted Answer

Open the “Profile” tab. Fill in the fields under “Personal details”: “Full name”, “Phone”, “City”, “Country”, “Bio”. Further down fill in “Instagram”, “Facebook”, “TikTok”, “YouTube”. Press the red “Save changes” button at the bottom of the page. The button turns green and says “✓ Saved”. For socials you can write your handle only, without the full link. For example @mario_bjj, or mario_bjj. The site builds the link on its own. If you prefer to paste the whole address, that works too. Name, city, country, bio and socials show on your public page. The bio is the text people read under “About”. Your phone number does not show on the public page. If you prefer not to give it, leave the field empty: it is not required. If you leave the page without pressing “Save changes”, you lose what you typed. Here, unlike the photo, nothing saves by itself.

Why can't I change my email?

Accepted Answer

In the “Profile” tab the “Email” field is grey and you cannot type in it. It is not a fault: right now you cannot change your email yourself. Your email is the key you use to get into the site. That is why it is locked. If you mistyped it when you signed up, or you lost that mailbox, write to info@bjjsquare.com from the new address. In your message give your username and the old email. Your password, on the other hand, you change yourself, from the “Settings” tab, under “Change password”.

Where do I set my belt?

Your belt is not in the “Profile” tab. It is in the “Tatami” tab. The name “Tatami” does not help: it is not a training diary. It is the tab with your practitioner details: belt, stripes, start year, weight, academy and coach. Open your profile. Under your photo there are six tabs in a row. Tap the second one, the one that says “Tatami”. The first section you see is called “Belt”. The third tab is called “Promotions”. That is not the one: there goes the history of the belts you earned over the years, not the one you wear now. Go to the Tatami tab

How do I change my belt and stripes?

Accepted Answer

Open the “Tatami” tab. Under “Change belt” the colours sit in a row. Tap yours. Below, “Stripes” appears (or “Degrees” if you picked black). Tap the right number. Scroll to the bottom of the page and press the red “Save changes” button. The button turns green and says “✓ Saved”. Adult belts: White, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, Coral. Kids belts (4-15): grey, yellow, orange and green, each in three levels — colour-white, solid colour, colour-black. They sit in their own group in the picker. White, blue, purple, brown and every kids belt: 0 to 4 stripes. Black: from 0 to 6 degrees. From the 7th up you move to coral. Coral: it has no stripes and no degrees, so the selector disappears. At 16 you move to the adult system, usually with the blue belt. When you switch, the old kids belt stays in your Promotions tab: nothing is lost. Every time you change your belt yourself, the green “Checked” tick disappears. That is on purpose: the new belt has to be checked again. Changing your belt here writes nothing in your history. If you want a record of who promoted you and when, add the belt in the “Promotions” tab. If you press “Save changes” and a red line appears, try again. Question 10

What does “checked belt” mean?

Accepted Answer

It means someone responsible has confirmed that this really is your belt. Anyone could claim to be a black belt: the check tells apart the people someone responsible has vouched for. In the “Tatami” tab, above the colours, there is a label that tells you where you stand. “✓ Checked”, in green: confirmed. “⏳ Check pending”, in yellow: you asked for a check and you are waiting. “Not checked”, in grey: nobody has confirmed it yet. “Not checked” even after your coach replied: that happens when he confirmed your gym membership and the coach link, but not the belt. The three check boxes are separate. If your coach confirmed everything but the belt, talk to him and then send a new request from “Coach confirmation”, in the Tatami tab. It is often just a box he skipped. What it is for, in practice: the green tick shows next to your belt on your profile and on your public page. It also opens up the seniority and experience badges, the ones you ask for by hand on the Badges page with the “Claim” button. The tick does not show on the card. The card shows your belt, not the check. The white belt is not checked: it is self-declared, and in fact the button to ask for a check does not appear. Do not mix it up with confirmed promotions. They are two different things: the tick in the “Tatami” tab is about the belt you wear now, promotions are about each single belt you earned over the years. You can have one without the other.

How do I ask for my belt to be checked?

Accepted Answer

The right route is to ask your coach. One single request confirms three things at once: that you train at that gym, that your belt is the right one, and that he is your coach. What gets sent is the saved data. If you have just changed belt and you do not press “Save changes”, the request travels with the old belt. Open the “Tatami” tab. Check your belt, stripes and “Home academy”. Press “Save changes” at the bottom of the page and wait for “✓ Saved”. Scroll back up to the “Coach confirmation” section. Press “Request confirmation”. You get “Request sent on … — waiting for a reply”. It is on its way. Whoever runs your gym gets the request in their notifications and answers with three separate check boxes. They can confirm just one or two of them. You read the outcome in the same section of the Tatami tab. Your coach can also do it without waiting for the request: from the gym dashboard he opens your student card and sets your belt. That one comes in already checked. If your coach is not on BJJ Square, there is a fallback: in the “Belt” section press the green “Request a check” button. That request goes to the BJJ Square admins and takes longer. The “Request a check” button only shows if your belt is not white and is not already checked. There is a third route, if your coach has already confirmed you in the “Promotions” tab: from his profile he can log your belt and tick “Also update the student's current belt”. That comes in already checked too, and you get a notice in your Notifications.

What is “Request confirmation” in the Tatami tab?

Accepted Answer

It is one single request covering three things: that you train at that gym, that your belt is the right one, and that he is your coach. It used to be three separate routes. Open the “Tatami” tab. Check your belt, stripes and “Home academy”. Press “Save changes” and wait for “✓ Saved”. Scroll back up to the “Coach confirmation” section. Press “Request confirmation”. You get “Request sent on … — waiting for a reply”. What gets sent is the saved data. If you change belt or gym and do not press “Save changes”, the old version goes out. If you have not saved your gym yet the site tells you: “Save your profile with your gym first”. Whoever runs the gym gets the request in their notifications and answers with three separate check boxes. They can confirm just one or two: the gym yes and the belt no, for instance, if they know you were graded elsewhere. You read the outcome in the same section of the Tatami tab, under “Request outcome”. From there you can send a new request if you need to. The alert only lives inside the site, in your coach's notifications. No email and no phone notification. If he does not open BJJ Square he does not see it: tell him out loud too.

Question 13

I changed belt and lost the green tick. Why?

Accepted Answer

It is normal and it is on purpose. Every time you change belt yourself, the check lapses and the label goes back to “Not checked”. The reason: the tick was for the old belt. The new belt has to be confirmed again. Open the “Tatami” tab. Check your belt and stripes. Press “Save changes” and wait for “✓ Saved”. Press “Request a check” in the “Belt” section. Or, quicker: ask your coach to update your belt from their gym area. Known problem: sometimes the “Request a check” button does not come back, and in its place you are left with “Check request sent to the admins”. It happens when you had already sent a request in the past: the site remembers it and will not let you send another one. In that case there is nothing you can do from the page. Write to info@bjjsquare.com with your username and your new belt, or ask your coach to do it from their gym area.

How long does a belt check take?

Accepted Answer

There is no guaranteed time. Requests are looked at by hand by the BJJ Square admins, when they can. While you wait, your belt keeps the yellow “⏳ Check pending” label. The profile works just the same: only the tick changes. When the check goes through, you get a notice on the Notifications page, inside the site. No email arrives and nothing shows up on your phone. The fastest route is still your coach. If they set your belt from their gym area, the green tick arrives straight away, with no waiting. If more than two weeks have gone by and nothing has changed, write to info@bjjsquare.com with your username.

What are start year, weight, weight category and Gi/No-Gi style?

Accepted Answer

They are four fields in the “Tatami” tab, in the “BJJ details” section. None of them is required. “Start year”: the year you started BJJ. Write the four digits only, for example 2018. “Weight (kg)”: your weight in kilos. “Weight category (IBJJF)”: you pick it from a drop-down list, from “Rooster” to “Ultra Heavy”. “Training style”: three buttons, “Gi”, “No-Gi” and “Both”. Where they end up: The start year becomes the red “X years on the mat” line at the top of your profile, and the YRS and EXP values on the card. The weight category becomes the badge with the scales at the top of your profile, the WGT value on the card and a line on your public page. The style becomes a badge at the top of your profile, the GI value on the card and a line on your public page. Your weight in kilos shows up nowhere today: not on your profile, not on the card, not on your public page. If you prefer not to write it, leave the field empty. Remember to press “Save changes” at the bottom of the page. You have to see “✓ Saved”.

How do I show that I am an instructor?

Accepted Answer

Open the “Tatami” tab. Scroll down to the “I'm an instructor / I teach BJJ” switch. Tap it: it turns red. Press “Save changes” at the bottom of the page and wait for “✓ Saved”. From then on the “Coach” badge appears next to your name, on your profile and on your public page. On the card you get “★ COACH” in the top right. The switch is available only for black and coral belts. With any other belt it stays grey and will not move: underneath it says “Available only for black and coral belts.” This switch only says that you teach. It does not give you gym management powers: those come when you are the owner or a co-owner of a gym on the site.

How do I set my coach? And what do I write in “Full lineage”?

Accepted Answer

At the bottom of the “Tatami” tab there are two items: “Current coach” and “Full lineage”. Neither is required. “Current coach” is no longer typed by hand: now you pick from the people signed up to BJJ Square, and your coach has to confirm the link. Open the “Tatami” tab. Scroll down to “Current coach”. Tap the field with the magnifying glass, the one that says “Search for your coach…”. A list opens. Under “At your gyms” are the instructors of the gyms where you train: yours is almost always there. If they are not, type at least two letters of their name: under “Other coaches” the other registered instructors appear. Tap their name. The search field disappears and a box with their name takes its place. Scroll to the bottom of the page and press the red “Save changes” button. Wait for the green “✓ Saved”. From then on a request reaches your coach. They read it on the Notifications page (“X listed you as their coach”) and answer from their own “Promotions” tab, in the “To confirm” box. Under their name, on your profile, you see where you stand: “Awaiting confirmation”, in yellow: the request has gone out and they have not answered yet. “Confirmed”, in green: they said yes. Only now does their name become clickable on your public page, with a green tick next to it. “Not confirmed”, in red: they said no. The name stays on your profile, but with no tick and no link. If your coach is not on BJJ Square that is fine too. Under the search field there is a second one, “Or type your coach's name”. Write the name there and press “Save changes”. It shows on your public page as plain text, with no tick and no link. Nobody has to confirm anything. To change coach tap “Change” next to their name: the box empties and you can look for someone else. Press “Save changes”. A new request to confirm goes out to the new coach. The “Coach who awarded your black belt” field is gone. If you had filled it in, that name has been moved to the “Promotions” tab, as a black belt declared by you. You find it there. “Full lineage”, on the other hand, is still a free text field. Write your lineage chain, for example: Mario Rossi → Carlos Gracie Jr. → Carlos Gracie. The site does not check the names and does not link them to any profile. It shows on your public page.

What is the “Promotions” tab?

Accepted Answer

It is the third tab of your profile, right after “Tatami”. Inside is the history of the belts you have earned in your whole life: which belt, when, where and who gave it to you. It is a different thing from the belt you wear now. That one is in the “Tatami” tab. Here stays written the whole road you have travelled, belt by belt. The page is split into boxes: At the top, “How it works”: three lines explaining the page. “My promotions”: the belts you have earned. “To confirm”: it only appears if someone is waiting for your answer, that is if you are someone's coach. “Belts I've awarded”: it only appears if you teach or have students. Promotions also show on your public page, under the “Promotions” heading. The ones confirmed by the coach have a green tick. If you have not put anything in yet you read “You haven't logged any promotions yet.” It is not an error: you have to add the lines yourself, one at a time. The site cannot guess them. How do I log a belt I have earned?

Accepted Answer

Open the “Promotions” tab of your profile. Under “My promotions”, on the right, tap “Add”. A box opens. In the first list, “Belt”, pick the colour. In “Date” put the day you got it. The date is required: if you cannot remember the exact day, put the closest one you remember. In “Who promoted you” tap the “Search for your coach…” field and pick your coach from the list. If you cannot find them, type their name in the field below, “Or type your coach's name”. In “Academy” type two letters of the gym's name and tap it in the list that appears. In “Notes” you can add a line, for example “promoted at the summer camp”. It is optional. Press the red “Save” button. The box closes and the belt appears in the list, with its status label on the right. If you leave “Academy” empty, the site puts in your home gym on its own, the one written in the “Tatami” tab. You can keep one line per belt colour only. If you add the same colour again, the new line takes the place of the old one. You cannot have two blues. The “Belt” list also has the kids' belts: grey, yellow, orange and green, each in three levels. They sit in a separate group. Coral is at the bottom of the list and covers 7th degree and above. Red has no entry of its own: write to info@bjjsquare.com. To delete a line you put in yourself, tap the bin on the right. Lines logged by your coach have no bin: only they can remove those. If you press “Save” and a red line appears, try again. If it happens again, write to info@bjjsquare.com saying which belt you were adding.

Question 20

Who confirms the promotion I logged? And what if my coach is not on BJJ Square?

Accepted Answer

It depends on what you put in the “Who promoted you” field. If you picked a coach from the list, that is someone signed up to BJJ Square: a request reaches them and the line stays “Pending” until they answer. If you typed the name by hand, because they are not signed up: there is nobody to notify and the line stays “Self-declared”. Your coach finds your request in the “Promotions” tab of their profile, in the “To confirm” box. They read a line like “Says you awarded them the Blue belt · May 2019” and they have two buttons: “Confirm” and “Reject”. They only get a notice inside the site, on the Notifications page. Nothing on their phone, no email. If they do not open BJJ Square, they will not notice. So tell them yourself, in person or on WhatsApp: it is the fastest way. When they confirm, the line turns to “Verified” with the green tick and you get a notice in Notifications. If they reject it, it turns to “Not confirmed” and disappears from your public page: only you and they can see it. If your coach is not on BJJ Square, the promotion stays “Self-declared” and that is fine. It still shows on your profile and on your public page, only without the green tick. If your coach has not answered for weeks, see I asked my coach to confirm and nobody answers.

Question 21

What do “Verified”, “Pending”, “Self-declared” and “Not confirmed” mean?

Accepted Answer

They are the four labels that appear on the right of every line in the “Promotions” tab. They tell you how far along the confirmation of that belt is. “Verified”, in green with the shield: your coach confirmed. On your public page that line has the green tick. “Pending”, in yellow with the clock: the request has gone out and your coach has not answered yet. “Self-declared”, in grey: you wrote it and nobody has confirmed it. It happens when your coach is not on BJJ Square. “Not confirmed”, in red: your coach answered that it did not happen that way. On your public page, under the list, it says: “Promotions with a check mark are confirmed by the coach. The others are declared by the athlete”. Anyone looking at you understands the difference. A “Not confirmed” promotion does not show on your public page. Only you and the coach who rejected it can see it. The site does not tell you the reason: ask them at the gym. Do not confuse these labels with the verified belt in the “Tatami” tab. There you confirm the belt you wear now. Here you confirm one single belt from the past. You can have one without the other. None of these labels takes away or gives you points, badges or features. It only changes what people see when they open your profile.

Question 22

Why is it worth filling in your promotions?

Accepted Answer

It is not required and your profile works just the same. But there are three good reasons. It keeps a record of who promoted you. In ten years, after you have changed gym twice, that name is still there. It gives your belt weight. A line confirmed by your coach is worth more than a belt you gave yourself. It links profiles together. If your coach is on BJJ Square, their name becomes clickable and whoever looks at you lands on their page. It puts you in the public registry of verified belts. If your coach confirms and is linked to a claimed academy, you appear in Verified belts, with name, belt and who awarded it. And if you are the coach, the belts you have awarded show on your public page under “Belts awarded”, counted by colour, with your students' names. Years of work, in black and white. Promotions give no points and unlock no badges. They are there to tell your story, not to move you up a ranking. You can fill in one only, the one that matters most to you. You do not have to put it all in at once.

What is the verified belts registry and how do I get in?

Accepted Answer

It is the public list, at Verified belts, of people whose belt was confirmed by the coach who awarded it. One row per person, at the highest confirmed rank, with name, belt, who awarded it, academy and country.

There is no editorial team and no voting: you get in when three conditions are met at once, and the system checks them.

The promotion is confirmed by the coach in the “Promotions” tab. The green check in the “Tatami” tab is not enough.
Whoever confirms is an owner or instructor of an academy claimed by its owner.
You are blue belt or above, you have a username and you are not a minor. Kids' belts stay out.

Open the “Promotions” tab and tap “Add”.
Pick the belt, enter the date and under “Who promoted you” choose your coach from the list. If you type the name by hand, no request is sent.
Press “Save” and tell your coach in person: the notice reaches them only in the site's Notifications.
When they confirm, the row becomes “Verified”. If your coach is linked to a claimed academy, you appear in the registry within an hour.

Note: Faster: if you are a member of their academy, your coach can record the belt for you, from the “Belts I've awarded” box or by promoting you from the academy panel. It arrives already verified.

Note: If your coach will never sign up (elderly, abroad, or no longer with us), on the “Self-declared” row you find “Request attestation”: describe a checkable proof and an administrator reviews it. If it holds up, you enter the registry as “Attested by BJJ Square · by Coach Name”, with a symbol different from the confirmation. The lineage chain stops there.

My coach confirmed the promotion but I am not in the verified belts registry

Accepted Answer

The confirmation is one of three conditions. If you have the “Checked” row in the “Promotions” tab and you are not in the list, almost always one of the other two is missing. Your coach is not linked to a claimed academy. They must be listed as owner or instructor, with their profile linked, of a claimed page. Ask them: if the academy is not claimed, the day it is you get in too. Your profile has no username, or your year of birth makes you a minor. The verified row is white or a kids' belt. The registry starts at blue. Less than an hour has passed. The registry refreshes once an hour. Is the row “Attested”? Then you are in the registry, with the document symbol instead of the shield: it is the exception for the coach without a profile, and it reads “attested by BJJ Square”. The green “✓ Checked” check in the “Tatami” tab is unrelated: it concerns the belt you wear now and can also be given by an administrator. The registry reads only the promotions confirmed by the coach in the “Promotions” tab. If all the conditions are met and after a day you still do not appear, write to info@bjjsquare.com with your username.

What is the BJJ Square Card?

It is your collectible card, video-game style. You find it in the “🃏 Card” tab, the last of the five tabs. It shows your photo, your name, your belt with the stripe dots, your academy with its logo, six stats, your Instagram and your username. The data is not typed in by hand: the card takes it from your profile. If you update the “Tatami” tab, the card updates on its own. The colour and the frame change with your belt. The higher the belt, the “rarer” the card. The image you download is a PNG, 1080 × 1500 pixels, sized for Instagram stories. The card is always in English, even if you use the site in another language. There is no way to change it. Full card guide

Question 26

What do OVR, TEC, EXP, GI, YRS, CMP and WGT mean on the card?

They are the numbers on the card. The big one at the top left is OVR, the other six sit in the grid at the bottom. OVR: the overall rating, from 0 to 99. TEC: technical level, worked out from your belt and your stripes. EXP: experience, worked out from your years of practice. GI: the game you play, that is Gi, No-Gi or both. YRS: how many years you have been training. CMP: competitions, written as “bouts at your current belt / lifetime total”. WGT: your weight category. How the numbers come out: TEC starts from the belt colour (white 42, kids belts from 44 to 55, blue 58, purple 72, brown 82, black 90, coral 97) and goes up 2 points per stripe. On black it goes up 1 point per degree. The maximum is 99. EXP starts at 30 and goes up 5 points for every year of practice, up to a maximum of 93. It needs your start year. GI is worth 78 if you pick “Gi”, 74 if you pick “No-Gi”, 90 if you pick “Both”. OVR is the weighted average of the three: TEC counts 45%, EXP 30%, GI 25%. So picking “Both” as your training style gives the highest GI score, and lifts your OVR. If you do not set your start year, EXP and YRS show a dash. The rarity tiers depend on the belt alone: white COMMON, kids belts KIDS, blue RARE, purple EPIC, brown ELITE, black LEGENDARY, coral ✦ MYTHIC. Question 27

How do I download and share my card?

Accepted Answer

Open the “🃏 Card” tab. Look at the preview and check the data is right. Press the red “Download for Instagram” button, under the card. The word “Generating…” flashes up for a moment. The image lands in your downloads, with a name like bjjsquare-mario-rossi.png. On iPhone the file sometimes does not download: it opens in a new browser tab. If that happens, press and hold your finger on the image for a couple of seconds and choose “Add to Photos” (or “Save Image”). You then find it in your gallery. There is no direct share button. Download the image first, then open it from Instagram or WhatsApp like any other photo. If the preview is blank or the data is old, close the page and open it again. The card is redrawn every time you go in. If you really cannot save it, take a screenshot of the card: you lose a bit of quality, but you can post it. What is “Medals in numbers”?

It is the box that appears at the top of the “Competitions” tab, above the list of tournaments. It sums up your results in numbers. “Gold”, “Silver”, “Bronze”: how many medals of each colour you have won. “Total”: how many competitions you have added altogether. “By belt”: how many competitions you did at each belt, with the colour dot. The box only appears if you have at least one result added. If the “Competitions” tab is empty, you do not see it: that is not an error. The numbers update on their own when you add or remove a result. Results still marked “Pending” are counted too. On your public page there is a similar box, called “Competition results”, with “Medals by belt”.

Can I make my profile private?

No, right now you cannot. The public page bjjsquare.com/athletes/your-username is visible to anyone, even to people with no account on the site. In the “Settings” tab there is a “Profile visibility” item with the description “Control who can see your public profile”. Next to it is the word “soon”: it is not active yet, it is faded and you cannot touch it. Do not expect it to work. What you can do today is choose what to write. Your profile only shows the fields you filled in. Public: photo, name, username, belt, city and country, bio, start year, academy, coach, lineage, socials, competition results and badges. Not public: email, phone number and weight in kilos. If you leave bio, city, socials and full name empty, little more than your username is left on the public page. Even without a username your profile does not disappear completely: your name can still show in your gym's student list. If you have a serious reason for not being findable, write to info@bjjsquare.com and explain the situation.

How do I delete my account?

Deletion is irreversible. Once it is done there is no way to get your data back, not even by writing to us. Read everything before you start. Open the “Settings” tab, the fourth of the five tabs. Scroll down to the “Account” section, at the bottom of the page. Tap the red “Delete account” line. A window opens, titled “Delete your account?”. In the text box type the word DELETE, all in capitals. The red “Permanently delete” button lights up. Press it. You see “Deleting…” and then you are back on the site's home page. What is deleted for good: Your profile, your public page and your photo. Your training check-ins and your points. Your badges. Your gym memberships. Your competition results and your medal record. Your notifications, your reviews and your training-partner posts. What stays on the site instead: The gyms you manage are not deleted: they stay in the directory, but with no owner. Anyone can then claim them. The events and seminars you had published stay, without your name on them. The belts and badges you had awarded to your students stay with your students. If you manage a gym and you want someone else to keep it, hand the management over first, before deleting your account. Afterwards there is no going back. If the red message “Couldn't delete your account. Please try again or contact us.” appears, try again later. If it happens again, write to info@bjjsquare.com.
